What is Pivt?

​

Pivt is the social networking app for people on the move. Pivt is designed to connect relocated employees and their families with people they should know in their new communities. Pivt’s community of relocated employees provides peer centered trusted advice along the relocation journey. How to begin, where to live, finding the best schools as well as making friends and missing home are all up for discussion in a supportive environment filled with Like-experienced individuals and Pivt’s Experts.

Pivt complements existing mobility services because Pivt is focused on the human experience of living in a new place, not the journey of getting from A to B. Pivt’s value is community building and providing wellness resources (volunteer resources, expert content, etc.), not a service provider or aggregator. As such, Pivt partners with DSPs, RMCs, and other suppliers to supplement their relocation offerings.

Pivt offers a distinct value over other networking platforms: 

  • Pivt is an invite only and verified community for relocated and mobile employees. 

  • Pivt’s community is organized to specifically address the human factors of mobility 

  • Unlike consumer social media platforms, Pivt has no advertising on the platform. As a result, Pivt is focused on fostering community inside & outside the application, so users can make meaningful connections and make the most of wherever they are. 

  • Pivt has moderation tools, like private communities, for corporations to communicate with their employees and learn from the high level data. 

  • Pivt does not sell user information or data to 3rd parties, unlike almost all other social media platforms or community forums

Q: How does Pivt complement existing services in mobility, rather than compete with them?  What are the differences between what can be found on Pivt vs. what a destination service provider brings to the table?

 A: Pivt is focused on the human experience of living in a new place, not the journey of getting from A to B. Pivt’s value is community building and providing wellness resources (volunteer resources, expert content, etc.), not a service provider or aggregator. As such, Pivt partners with DSPs, RMCs, and other suppliers to supplement their relocation offerings.

Q: How is Pivt distinct from other social media platforms? Can you share how it's different in its goals & business model?  How does it address mobility's problems directly? 

A:  Here are the main ways Pivt is different:

  • Pivt is an invite only and verified community for relocated and mobile employees. 

  • As everyone is on the platform for the same reason, Pivt is organized to specifically address mobility concerns and needs. 

  • Unlike consumer social media platforms, there are no ads or solicitations on Pivt. This means that all of the content is coming from users just like you and that Pivt is not incentivized to draw as many eyeballs for as long as possible to the platform (increasing ad revenue, but putting users’ mental health in jeopardy). Rather, Pivt's goal is to foster community inside & outside the application, so users can make meaningful connections and make the most of wherever they are. 

  • Pivt has moderation tools, like private communities, for corporations to communicate with their employees and learn from the high level data.

Pivt Users

Q: Who are the people in the Pivt App Community? 

A: There are four types of people contributing to the Pivt Community:

​

  • Employees:

    • Very Simply, Pivt is an invite only community composed of relocated, remote, and mobile domestic and expatriate employees and their families. Pivt is an open, transparent and supportive environment that is not monitored by employers. This allows employees to feel safe to share experiences, support and empathy.

  • Employee Family Members:

    • Each employee invited to Pivt has the opportunity to invite one other  family member  (18+ years) to Pivt for free. Often this is a spouse, partner or significant other, but Pivt recognizes that the world is made up of all kinds of families  and supports them all.

  • Pivt Staff:

    •  Pivt provides community moderators, as well as Pivt experts with extensive personal hands-on experience from their own relocations.

  • Employers

    • ​ Employers may participate, interact and share information with their employees in private communities that are insulated from the greater Pivt experience. No employee information will be sent back to employers.

​Q: How are employees invited into Pivt? :

A: There are two primary ways employees can be invited to Pivt:

​

  1. A bulk upload of employees to Pivt, which is possible by providing a CSV file to Pivt. 

  2. Employees can be invited ad hoc at the time of file authorization via a password protected Pivt onboarding portal, specific to your RMC.

  • Onboarded employees may send one invite to an 18+ aged family member, spouse, or partner.

  • All employees invited to Pivt will receive an email with instructions to download and sign into the Pivt app.

Content and Privacy on Pivt

Q: What kind of content is shared on Pivt?

A: Employees share background information such as former cities lived in, destination city, university, workplace, interests and causes, in order to connect with other like-experienced individuals within the community. Employees may also share pictures, videos and general conversation with the community in the form of posts, comments, and questions. Q: How Does Pivt protect employee privacy?

Q: Does Pivt provide Data to 3rd parties (no advertisements or solicitations)?

A: Pivt employs third-party companies and individuals to administer and provide various aspects of the Services on our behalf (such as customer support, data hosting, email delivery and database management services). These third-parties may use user information only as directed by us and in a manner consistent with this Privacy Policy, and are prohibited from using or disclosing user information for any other purpose. Pivt does not sell personal information or use personal information for advertising purposes.

 

Q: What are Pivt’s content and community guidelines?

A: Pivt’s community and its members follow a simple set of guidelines designed to promote a supportive and safe environment, where employees interact freely, respect others, and enjoy the privacy of networking with other relocated employees and their families.

  • Public shaming of people, services or companies are not allowed

  • Discussion of relocation package details or providers are not allowed

  • Be kind and courteous and promote the same. Healthy debates are natural, but kindness is required

  • Content promoting hate, sexually explicit context, and harrassment are not allowed

Q: What tools are used to enforce Pivt’s community guidelines?

A: Pivt utilizes a number of tools and tactics to ensure Pivt remains a safe and supportive environment for relocated employees and their families:

  • Pre-post automated moderation scans user posts prior to being published for derogatory words or phrases that break Pivt’s community guidelines. If such content is found, the user may not publish the post until the offending content is removed.

  • Community managers and administrators monitor the content on Pivt and may take a number of actions:

    • Remove a post 

    • Contact a user directly, in order to promote healthy engagement with the community.

    • Remove a user from Pivt after being warned of a number of offenses.

  • Members of the community may also block a user or report a post to bring it to the attention of the Pivt Community Managers and Administrators.

Q: Can employers utilize private communities on Pivt?

A: Yes, private communities can be made available for employers to interact directly with their employees on Pivt for a premium fee. Within the private communities, employers  add files and multimedia content only accessible by their employees. Employers may designate their own administrators within private communities and create rules and guidelines beyond Pivt’s community standards.

Q: What kind of questions can be asked on Pivt? 

A: At Pivt we pride ourselves on transparency and disclosure and recognize that relocation and remote employment is a personal journey. As such, all questions valuable to you are just as valuable to us and the rest of the Pivt members. If you ask it, it’s likely that someone else was questioning it too.

Q: Who can answer a question asked on Pivt?

A: Any Pivt member is welcome to answer a question or make a comment on a question.

Appendix

 

Q. Is Pivt just for expatriates?

A: No, Pivt is for relocated, mobile and remote employees both domestically and internationally. Certainly, it is not a secret that this has been a long time challenge for expats, and it doesn’t take living through that experience to understand it - just simply consider things like language barriers and cultural differences. But you also have those same issues in an intra country move; challenges of unfamiliarity with the area, grocery stores and finding necessities, finding a church, volunteer opportunities, friends, and a community of people to which you can belong.

 

Q: What kind of content is acceptable on Pivt?

A: Pivt is a social well-being app for relocated, mobile and remote employees. As such, pictures, videos, helpful tips, concerns, and all questions are welcome on Pivt. We’ve all been there. Patience and understanding go a long way, and being respectful makes the best experience for every member in our Pivt community.

 

Q: What kind of content is unacceptable on Pivt?

A: Pivt is a respectful environment for shared experiences and helping others with their relocation and remote working journeys. Content that will not be tolerated include: Insults, profanity, harassment, nudity, content of an overtly sexual nature, negative or disparaging comments about race, religion or sexuality. In addition, Pivt does not allow discussion about relocation package details or disparaging remarks about your employer or relocation company on the platform. 

 

Q: Why is employee social wellbeing important? Why is it important in mobility?  Does it contribute to the companies' bottom line? 

A: Let’s start with the retention issue that many businesses face today. Companies spend on average $90,000 relocating a single employee, yet â…“ quit their job within a year or return early  due to social reasons. On top of this, losing an employee often costs upwards of 6-9 months of their salary.  

From a proactive standpoint, companies that have embraced job embeddedness, which is the idea that the more ways in which employees are connected, not just within their organization, but also within their community, the more likely they are to stay at an organization, have been more successful. In fact, "Off the Job embeddedness", which is helping employees (and their families) connect socially outside of work is the leading driver for employees to stay in their jobs. This has never been more important while during the pandemic, employees can't gain a network through their interactions with employees.
